Trump recounted the conversation during a rally in South Carolina on Wednesday, saying he had asked Pichai whether Google could handle the proposed name change.

According to Trump, Pichai rejected the latest proposal. Trump described the Google CEO’s response by saying, “No, no, no. This time I’m not doing it … Oceans are different, sir. They cover … a lot of countries. Please don’t ask us to do that,” Trump quoted Pichai as saying.

“So I’ll probably pass on that. I think we should keep it as the Atlantic Ocean, right?” Trump said, suggesting that he had dropped the idea.

Google has not publicly confirmed Trump’s account of the conversation.
