\n\nIshan Kishan shattered the record for the most T20I runs scored by an Indian batter in a calendar year during Sunday's (November 1) fifth T20I against New Zealand. Ishan only needed six runs to surpass Suryakumar Yadav's record. Mitchell Santner asked India to bat first, and the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter began his account with a six off the fourth ball of his innings. Ishan has now scored more than 1,165 runs in 37 T20Is in 2026, whereas Surya scored 1,164 runs in 32 T20Is for India in 2022.
\n\nWorld No. 1 T20I batsman Abhishek Sharma also had an opportunity to pass Suryakumar in the fifth T20I, but the Amritsar left-hander was only able to hit one run off two balls. Adam Milne sent Abhishek to the pavilion on the opening delivery of India's second over. Daryl Mitchell caught Abhishek as he attempted to play an overhead shot.
\n\nWith 1,153 runs in 39 T20Is in 2026, Abhishek is the Indian player with the fastest T20I century. Sanju Samson follows Ishan and Abhishek on the list of batsmen who scored the most T20I runs for India…
