Tata Sons Chairman Live Updates: No impact on Tata group companies says Founder of InGovern Research

Shriram Subramanian, Founder & MD of InGovern Research Services, said the decision is surprising and comes amid some friction over Chandrasekaran’s term at Tata Sons. He said a five-year extension had been sought, but the age factor had to be considered as the group has a policy of retiring executives at 65.

Subramanian said there will be no impact on group companies as the listed companies have strong management teams. Shareholders of listed Tata companies, he said, do not need to be worried.

He expects the next Tata Sons chairman could be an insider and does not think a listing of Tata Sons is on the cards, noting that Noel Tata does not wish for Tata Sons to be listed.

The Tata Sons Board would need to meet immediately and announce a successor, Subramanian said, adding that the faster the successor is announced, the better it would be for stability. He also said there is no need to change the retirement age for executive directors.
