Bangladesh delivered a spectacular performance on Day 1 of the first Test against Australia in Darwin. Opting to bat, Australia were rattled early by a fiery Hasan Mahmud, who delivered a career-best performance with six wickets for 55 to break the spine of Australian batting. The daunting line-up fell like a pack of cards as Australia could only muster 198 runs on the board, with Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain also chipping in with two wickets each.

Bangladesh’s stupendous performance with the ball left renowned Indian commentator and cricket expert Harsha Bhogle impressed. Taking to X, Bhogle lauded Hasan Mahmud and the depth in Bangladesh’s fast bowling.

“Remember seeing Hasan Mahmud in India and being hugely impressed. Bangladesh without Nahid Rana, and showing their depth, have done wonderfully well,” he wrote on X.

Bangladesh On Top

Bangladesh has never won a Test in Australia, but they have a great chance to pull off one of the biggest upsets, with Australia under tremendous pressure at stumps on Day 1. After bowling out Australia for a paltry score, the batters responded with a strong showing, knocking off 96 runs at the loss of just one wicket. Shadman Islam was the only Bangladesh wicket to fall and was dismissed by Mitchell Starc for 20.

Bangladesh have Australia on the mat, but they still need to play their best cricket to keep Australia under constant pressure. Australia are a champion team, and in home conditions, they know how to bounce back with the back against the wall. Even a slight blip from Bangladesh can allow Australia to bounce back, and there will be no coming back for the visitors.
