India and Pakistan cricket teams haven’t met since the T20 World Cup 2026. The men’s teams clashed during the marquee event in February, while the women’s teams faced each other in June. The arch-rivals will have a chance to face each other again during the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, which is set to run from September 19 to October 4. Cricket will make its fourth appearance at the event, with the Indian men’s and women’s teams entering as defending champions.

How Can India Vs Pakistan Take Place at The Asian Games

India and Pakistan are usually kept in the same group in World Cups and Asia Cups; however, that is not the case for the Asian Games. An India vs Pakistan match at the Asian Games can happen in only two scenarios – if both teams reach the final, or lose in the semifinals to face off for a third-place finish.

In the men’s event, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have already qualified for the quarterfinals. Afghanistan, Japan and Nepal are clubbed in Group A, while Hong Kong China, Malaysia and Oman are placed in Group B. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals to join the four pre-qualified teams.

Meanwhile, the women’s team will face Japan in the quarterfinals and will then take on either Bangladesh or China in the semifinals. Sri Lanka will face Malaysia, while Pakistan will take on Thailand in the quarterfinals, with the winners advancing to the semifinals. If India and Pakistan stay unbeaten, they’ll clash for the Asian gold medal.

The men’s and women’s teams have named a full-strength squad for the marquee event. Shreyas Iyer will lead the men’s team, and will have Tilak Varma as his deputy, while Harmanpreet Kaur will continue as captain in the Asian Games, with Smriti Mandhana taking over the vice-captaincy duties.

Indian cricket squad for Asian Games 2026: Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma, Ravi Bishnoi, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Jasprit Bumrah, Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Shivam Dube, Varun Chakravarthy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
