Delhi Weather Forecast for Independence Day 2026: Delhi is likely to see very light to light rainfall during the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rain spells during the early morning and later in the afternoon and evening.

According to the IMD’s latest forecast, the Red Fort area is likely to witness a spell of very light to light rain between 4 am and 6 am, with around 5 mm of rainfall expected and a 70 per cent probability. Another spell of around 5 mm is likely between 6 am and 9 am, with a 60 per cent probability.

A further spell of around 3 mm of rain is expected between the afternoon and evening, also with a 60 per cent probability.

The forecast comes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation from the Red Fort on Saturday morning on the occasion of Independence Day.

“The monsoon trough is expected to move northwestwards, and around August 15, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over southeast Uttar Pradesh and northern Chhattisgarh,” Mahesh Palawat of Skymet said.

“At the same time, the axis of the monsoon trough is expected to lie over the Indo-Gangetic plains, including the Delhi region. Because of this, widespread light to moderate rainfall is likely over Delhi, particularly during the late night hours of August 14 continuing to early morning hours of August 15,” he said.

Palawat added that isolated parts of the national capital could continue to receive rainfall after the morning hours. The IMD has forecast a maximum temperature of 32-34 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25-27 degrees Celsius in the Red Fort area on Independence Day.

Palam recorded a maximum of 30.6 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees below normal, while Lodhi Road recorded 30.4 degrees Celsius. Ridge and Ayanagar recorded maximum temperatures of 30.1 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Several weather stations recorded moderate rainfall during the day. Safdarjung received 20.2 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 5.30 pm, while Palam recorded 12.6 mm, Lodhi Road 6.4 mm and Ridge 26.2 mm. Ayanagar did not record any rainfall during the period.

The minimum temperature at Safdarjung settled at 27.2 degrees Celsius on Friday, marginally above normal.

The relative humidity stood at 88 per cent in the morning and rose to 98 per cent in the evening, according to the IMD.

The weather office has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light rain on Saturday, with no weather warning issued for the day. Delhi’s Air Quality Index stood at 98 at 4 pm on Friday, placing it in the “satisfactory” category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
