Yashasvi Jaiswal joined Sachin Tendulkar and Sanjay Manjrekar in a unique list as he took the field during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. Jaiswal, who made his Test debut against West Indies in 2023, became only the third Indian player to play his first 30 Tests at different venues. Sanjay, who played 37 Tests, played his first 33 Tests at different venues. Sachin played his first 32 Tests at 32 different venues. Overall, he played 200 Test matches.

Jaiswal is confirmed to go past Sanjay and Sachin on the elite list as India will play their next four games in Colombo, Wellington, Christchurch and Nagpur. Jaiswal hasn’t played a Test match at any of these venues.

Jaiswal played his debut Test at Roseau. After two Tests against West Indies, he travelled to South Africa before playing his maiden Test in India against England early in 2024. He played his first Test against Australia in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and then played his maiden series against England in 2025. Jaiswal will be playing his first Test in New Zealand later in 2026.

Jaiswal has scored 2535 runs in the 29 completed Tests he has played so far. He departed for 32 off 37 balls in the first innings of his 30th Test. He is only part of the Test team at present.

Meanwhile, India have received a boost before the second day as KL Rahul will come out to bat. The India vice-captain walked off the field in the final session due to cramps. Speaking to the media after the first day’s play, India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak confirmed that Rahul will be fit to bat.

“KL batted really well. I think he was getting only cramps. So by the end of the day, he was fine. Probably once you start getting cramps, you get it in the hamstring, you get it in the groin, you get it in your hand. But at the moment he looks absolutely fine. So he should be good to go tomorrow,” he said.
