‘Ghost’ actress Ananya Raj dies at 27 after year-long health struggles, family confirms

Her family said she had been facing physical and mental health difficulties for more than a year. They said the actor died peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of July 15.

Actress Ananya Raj, who featured in films including 7 Hours to Go, The Final Exit and Ghost, has died at the age of 27. She passed away on July 15, but her family announced her death on social media a month later.

In a post shared on Ananya’s official Instagram account, her family said she had been facing physical and mental health difficulties for more than a year. They said the actor died peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of July 15.

“With great pain, we have to announce that Ananya passed away in the wee hours of 15th July. She passed away peacefully in sleep,” the family said in the statement. “For over a year she was going through physical and mental discomfort. And she fought like a warrior to overcome them,” they added.


The family also paid tribute to Ananya, describing her as a ‘strong-spirited girl’ who ‘lived like a Queen’. “She was a strong spirited girl and lived like a Queen. Bachcha, your absence will be dearly felt,” the statement read.

They also asked people to respect their privacy during this period. “We urge all of you to pray for her soul. And in these trying times, we wish to maintain privacy and quietitude.”

The All-Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has also paid tribute to Raj. In a statement, the association said it was deeply saddened by Ananya’s death.

“With profound grief and a heavy heart, the All-Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) mourns the untimely demise of actress Ananya Raj, who passed away at the young age of just 27 on 15 July 2026,” the statement read.

AICWA offered its condolences to Ananya’s family and loved ones and prayed for the peace of her soul. “Ananya Raj will always be remembered. Her journey may have ended, but her memories will live on forever,” AICWA said, ending its note with ‘Om Shanti.’

Ananya was raised in Mumbai and worked in both Hindi and regional cinema. She entered the entertainment industry through films and music videos before making her Bollywood debut with 7 Hours to Go in 2016.

She went on to appear in The Final Exit in 2017 and Ghost in 2019. Her work also included regional projects such as the Telugu film Thaggede Le and the trilingual movie Madrasi Gang.
