The Delhi Police has warned people against fake and misleading posts circulating on social media claiming that permission has been granted for a “Reservation Hatao Andolan” at Jantar Mantar on Friday (August 21). In a post on social media, the Delhi Police said that no permission has been granted for any protest, procession, demonstration or assembly at Jantar Mantar.

The police also urged people not to believe or forward information without checking it through official and credible sources.

“Pause, Verify, Then Share. Not everything circulating online is true,” the Delhi Police said, while asking citizens to verify information before believing or sharing such claims.

No Permission For Protest At Jantar Mantar

According to the Delhi Police, videos and social media posts claiming that authorities have allowed the “Reservation Hatao Andolan” at Jantar Mantar on August 21 are false and misleading.

“No permission has been granted for any protest, procession, demonstration or assembly at Jantar Mantar. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 BNSS (erstwhile Section 144 CrPC) are already in force in New Delhi District. Accordingly, the assembly of five or more persons is strictly prohibited,” the post read on X.

The warning comes amid the circulation of posts and videos on social media about the alleged protest. The police said people should rely only on official sources for information about permissions and public gatherings.

Section 163 BNSS In Force

The Delhi Police further pointed out that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) are already in force in the New Delhi district.

Under these orders, the assembly of five or more people is strictly prohibited, the police said. The authorities also warned that legal action may be taken against people involved in creating or spreading fake news.

The Delhi Police advised citizens to check information with official sources before forwarding or sharing posts on social media. The police’s warning comes as social media platforms continue to see posts related to the alleged “Reservation Hatao Andolan” at Jantar Mantar. The clarification makes it clear that there is currently no permission for such a gathering on August 21.
