Delhi Weather Today: Cloudy, Light Rain Likely, Mercury Stays Above Normal Despite Showers

New Delhi: Delhi woke up to overcast skies on Friday, with light rain likely in parts of the national capital as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast generally cloudy conditions. The city is expected to record a minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius and a maximum of around 35 degrees Celsius on Friday. No weather warning has been issued.
Morning visuals from India Gate and Kartavya Path showed cloudy skies over the capital as the city remained under the influence of a rainy spell.
Rain lashed several parts of Delhi in the early hours of Thursday. Palam recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall at 28.4 mm, followed by Safdarjung at 8.1 mm, Ayanagar at 4.7 mm, Lodi Road at 2.4 mm and Ridge at 0.4 mm.
Despite the showers, several weather stations recorded maximum temperatures above normal. Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees above normal. Lodi Road recorded 35.6 degrees Celsius, 2.6 degrees above normal, while Ridge and Ayanagar recorded 35.3 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature at Safdarjung was 25 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees below normal. Lodi Road recorded 26 degrees Celsius, while Ayanagar, Ridge and Palam recorded minimum temperatures of 24.4, 22.7 and 22.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
According to the IMD forecast, the rainy spell is likely to continue over the weekend. On Saturday, August 22, Delhi is expected to receive moderate rain, with temperatures likely to remain between 25 and 33 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, August 23, the weather office has forecast light rain or drizzle, with the temperature expected to range between 24 and 33 degrees Celsius. Light rain or drizzle is also likely on August 24.
The weather is expected to become partly cloudy on August 25 and 26, with maximum temperatures likely to remain around 35 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality was in the moderate category on Thursday, with the Central Pollution Control Board recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 110 at 4 pm.
