Lovlina Borgohain won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
Indian boxer and Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain has been in the headlines for weeks now after pointing out an incorrect map of India at a restaurant in Glasgow during the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2026. However, it even got noticed by none other than the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who even mentioned the incident during a conversation with her. Borgohain had observed that areas of Jammu & Kashmir and the Northeast were absent from the map of India that was printed on napkins at the eatery.
She brought up the subject with the restaurant’s management, emphasising that all of India is important and needs to be accurately portrayed. After that, the restaurant expressed regret and promised to fix the map and logo. PM Modi said her video would be remembered for a long time.
PM Modi Talks About The Flag Controversy With Lovlina
Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the conversation about the incident at the Glasgow restaurant with Lovlina on a lighthearted note and jokingly asked. “What happened, were you picking a fight with the restaurant owner?”
Lovlina explained that the incident took place on the final day of celebrations, after the Indian contingent had assembled at the restaurant after their performances. Instead of confronting the management, she claimed to have approached them in a courteous manner.
“We had such a great performance; it was the last day… and everyone had won, and the whole place was full of people from India. So I was feeling a bit bad… so I spoke to them nicely and made a request, sir. Then they agreed to it, and now it has been changed too, sir,” Lovlina Borgohain replied.
PM Modi Praises Lovlina
“In this situation of victory… the happiness, joy with your teammates, and the games being over… so a mood of fun and lightheartedness. At such a time, for your eyes to go to that map… and to register it… and immediately… It’s not just while receiving a medal that the country stands tall; it’s that feeling for the nation from within… I’ll tell you the truth, this video of yours is not ordinary. People will remember it for a long time,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi
