\n\nWhenever you think of South Indian cuisine, the things that come to your mind are usually rice, dosas, idlis and coconut heavy curries. Yes, they can be super comforting but not always protein rich. For vegetarians who are trying to eat more protein, that can become a problem. To tackle this problem, a food influencer, Dr Prarthana Bhat, has started her South Indian Protein Project, in which she shows how familiar regional dishes can become more protein friendly without becoming complicated or boring. Her latest recipe is soybean gassi, a Mangalorean style dish made with dried soybeans, green peas, potato and a freshly roasted coconut masala. According to her recipe, the gassi alone provides around 38 to 40 grams of protein per serving. That number alone puts it well ahead of most traditional vegetarian curries.
