Rain-related traffic chaos continued across Delhi-NCR for the second consecutive day on Friday, with massive congestion reported on the DND Flyway, Ring Road and key arterial routes connecting the capital with Gurugram, Noida and Greater Noida.

According to traffic updates, the entire DND stretch remained heavily gridlocked, while Ring Road witnessed bumper-to-bumper traffic during peak morning hours. Commuters also reported severe jams in Greater Noida, with slow-moving vehicles and long delays across multiple routes. This comes after just 16 mm of rainfall was enough to bring Delhi’s already fragile road network to a near standstill on Thursday, with waterlogged roads, massive traffic snarls and ongoing infrastructure works combining to cripple movement across the national capital.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded 15.6 mm of rainfall at Safdarjung between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Wednesday, while Lodhi Road received 38.7 mm, making it the wettest station in the city. Despite the relatively moderate rainfall, roads across Delhi were inundated, exposing the city’s recurring drainage and traffic management challenges.

PWD officials said the project is expected to take over one-and-a-half years to complete, raising concerns of prolonged congestion on one of Delhi’s busiest corridors.

Traffic police also attributed the jams to Kanwariya movement, with camps being set up at Sarai Kale Khan and Pandav Nagar and processions moving through major routes. Officials warned that traffic pressure is expected to intensify as Dak Kanwariyas arrive over the next few days.

Waterlogging was reported from several localities, including Sangam Vihar, Sadar Bazar, Kirari, ITO and Mehrauli-Badarpur Road near Okhla Mor, where submerged carriageways brought vehicles to a crawl. Social media was flooded with videos showing stranded vehicles, flooded intersections and commuters stuck for hours.

Many office-goers reported journeys stretching from the usual 30 minutes to nearly two hours.

Authorities have advised commuters to expect delays, avoid waterlogged stretches where possible and check live traffic updates before heading out, as rain, civic works and Kanwar Yatra-related restrictions are likely to continue affecting movement across Delhi over the coming days.
