A mysterious military aircraft spotted flying near McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas, has sparked speculation that it could be the rarely seen B-21 Raider stealth bomber. Video filmed Tuesday shows a large gray aircraft with a silhouette resembling one of America’s stealth bombers flying near the Air Force base. The aircraft has not been officially identified.

Some observers believe its proximity to McConnell Air Force Base could indicate that the aircraft was involved in a test. OutKick reporter David Hookstead said the aircraft appeared most likely to be the B-21 Raider, pointing to what appeared to be a reflection coming from a window in the footage.

However, other possibilities have also been raised.

Some observers suggested the aircraft could be the nearly 30-year-old B-2 Spirit, which sometimes refuels at McConnell Air Force Base. Others pointed to the RQ-170 or the RQ-180, a drone whose existence has never been officially acknowledged by the government.

The B-21 Raider is a nuclear-capable, penetrating strike stealth bomber developed by Northrop Grumman. The Air Force lists its average per-unit price at $692 million.

The aircraft was unveiled publicly in 2022 and is described as the world’s first sixth-generation aircraft. Flight testing has previously been reported at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

Most details about the B-21 remain classified, including the schedule for when it will become operational. The Air Force has said it expects the stealth bomber to enter service within the next decade and has signaled plans to purchase at least 100 B-21s.

The aircraft is expected to operate alongside the Air Force’s existing fleet of 76 modernized B-52 Stratofortress bombers.

Despite the speculation surrounding the Kansas footage, the aircraft seen in the video has not been confirmed as a B-21 Raider.
