A large fire erupted Friday evening at a multi-family home on Atlantic Avenue in Salisbury, Massachusetts, sending dense black smoke across the area. The blaze was reported at 24 Atlantic Avenue, where a three-story wood-frame multi-family home was described as well involved in flames. The fire also extended to the Charlie-side exposure of the building.

The incident was upgraded to a 5th alarm, prompting additional firefighting resources to respond to the scene.

Firefighters from neighboring Newburyport also said they were heading to Salisbury to assist with battling the blaze.

The Salisbury Fire Department provided updates through police scanner reports, with the fire earlier reported as a fourth-alarm incident before being elevated to a fifth alarm.
