A video of Donald Trump embracing the parents of a 12-year-old boy killed by a stray bullet has prompted a fresh wave of online speculation about a mysterious bulge visible beneath the US President’s suit. The clip, shared by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, shows Trump leaving the stage during a speech on Saturday to embrace Migdalia Martinez and retired NYPD Sergeant Jesus Freytes.

The couple’s 12-year-old son, Jacob, was killed by a stray bullet in the Bronx.

But as footage of the emotional moment spread online, some social media users focused on the shape visible around the back of Trump’s suit. “What’s up with Trump’s backside in this clip from a few days ago?? Is it some kind of medical device? A poor-fitting suit? We need answers!!!” one user wrote.

Another claimed: “I truly believe this is the device Trump is using to assist him with walking.” “Seriously, what is going on with Trump’s rear end here? It looks like he has some sort of contraption back there,” another user posted on X.

There is, however, no evidence that the bulge is a medical device.

The White House has not said that Trump is using any such device, nor has it released a recent medical report indicating that he is.

Online speculation has ranged from an ill-fitting suit or padding to claims that the shape could be part of a medical device.

One social media user shared an answer generated by Google’s Gemini, which suggested that the shape could theoretically resemble an external controller or battery pack used with certain medical devices. Among the possibilities mentioned were a temporary sacral nerve stimulation device and a controller associated with a left ventricular assist device, or LVAD.

An LVAD is a mechanical pump used to help a weakened heart circulate blood. Its external components can include a controller and batteries worn outside the body.

But there is no verified evidence linking either device to Trump.

The latest speculation is also not the first time photographs or videos of the president have prompted online theories about his health.

In 2025, images from an Oval Office appearance led some social media users to claim they could see an LVAD-type device beneath Trump’s clothing.

Other posts circulated photographs purporting to show a box-like object beneath his shirt or a protrusion under his suit jacket.

Those claims, too, were not supported by publicly available medical evidence.

The latest images may ultimately have a much simpler explanation. A suit jacket can bunch, fold or appear uneven depending on how a person is standing or moving, while objects worn beneath clothing can also alter its shape.

For now, the identity of the object behind the latest viral bulge remains unknown and without further information from Trump’s doctors or the White House, claims that it is a medical device remain speculation.
