Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 took a bumper box office opening with a collection of Rs 22 crore. The romanti-actioner, a sequel to the 2007 film Awarapan, opened to positive reviews. Despite its clash with Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947, the movie earned a whopping Rs 81 crore in its opening weekend. Batwara 1947, on the other hand, opened at the ticket window at Rs 5.75 crore. The Sunny Deol movie registered Rs 26 crore within three days of its theatrical run. On day four, both movies witnessed drop in their collections. However, Emraan’s Awarapan 2 is still leading the box office race.

According to the tracking website Sacnilk, Awarapan 2 collected Rs 9.25 crore from 10,849 shows on day four at the box office. The romantic-actioner saw 64.4 percent drop from its previous day collection which was Rs 26 crore. Considering this, the four-day total of Emraan’s film stands at Rs 91 crore. On the other hand, its India gross earnings are Rs 109.02 crore.

At the overseas box office, the Nitin Kakkar directorial added Rs 2.5 crore, taking its overall gross to Rs 21.8 crore. It further pushed the worldwide box office earnings to Rs 130.82 crore.

Talking about Batwara 1947, the movie made only Rs 2 crore, pushing its four-day total to Rs 28.5 crore. The Sunny Deol-starrer’s India gross earnings stand at Rs 33.95 crore, while it added Rs 75 lakh internationally. The global box office collection of this partition drama is Rs 40.20 crore.

According to India TV’s report, Emraan and Disha Patani’s Awarapan 2 will premiere on Amazon Prime Video after concluding its theatrical run. The movie, directed by Nitin Kakkar, might stream on the OTT platform after 45 to 60 days of its release. That said, the makers are yet to make an official announcement about the film’s OTT release date. Apart from Emraan and Disha, the project features Shabana Azmi in a pivotal role.

Meanwhile, Batwara 1947‘s star cast includes Sunny, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Kanikka Kapur, Abhimanyu Singh, Rukhsar Rehman, and others. The film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under Aamir Khan Productions. While Awarapan 2‘s streaming partner is reportedly locked, Batwara 1947‘s OTT platform is yet to be revealed. An official announcement is awaited.
