Penn State Fraternity Drug Bust: Who Is Agostino Abbatiello? Alleged Ringleader Of Cocaine-Trafficking Ring
Agostino Abbatiello, 24, the alleged ringleader of a cocaine-trafficking ring involving Penn State University students, surrendered to authorities Tuesday morning and was arraigned on multiple felony charges, according to Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday.
Abbatiello, who is from Westbury, New York, had failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment on Monday. He was later taken before a judge and denied bail. Abbatiello was among 14 people charged Monday in connection with an alleged cocaine distribution operation that investigators say involved two off-campus Penn State fraternity houses, Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi.
Who Is Agostino Abbatiello?
Abbatiello is accused of being one of the main suppliers in the alleged cocaine-trafficking operation. Investigators say he and Thomas Robinson regularly traveled to Philadelphia and New York to obtain large quantities of cocaine, which was then allegedly cut, packaged and distributed mainly to Penn State students.
According to the criminal complaint, the alleged operation occurred from 2023 through 2024, although Abbatiello was allegedly continuing to deal cocaine as recently as February 2026.
Court documents allege that Abbatiello made tens of thousands of dollars in profits from drug transactions. One codefendant reportedly told investigators that he purchased more than $50,000 worth of cocaine from Abbatiello through cash and digital transactions.
The complaint also lists alleged purchases involving Abbatiello, including 500 grams for $18,000 on March 19, 2024, followed by one kilogram for $22,000 around July 12-13, 2024, and another kilogram for $22,000 around September 21, 2024.
Investigators allege that pledges at Delta Upsilon were ordered to cut and package cocaine as part of what Attorney General Sunday described as “indoctrination” rituals.
The complaint also alleges Abbatiello used personal debts to involve others in the operation. One fraternity member was allegedly made to deliver cocaine after failing to repay a $1,500 spring break loan, while another was allegedly directed to sell cocaine after owing Abbatiello thousands of dollars.
The investigation alleges that the drugs were trafficked from Philadelphia and New York and that Penn State students made up the majority of the alleged customers.
Authorities say Abbatiello, Robinson, Mohammed Hurabi and Lars Zeepvat coordinated the operation and face charges. Robert Zanolla faces felony conspiracy and other charges, while eight other student-aged defendants face misdemeanor possession and paraphernalia charges.
Paul Robinson, identified as Thomas Robinson’s father, also faces felony charges for allegedly tampering with evidence and hindering the investigation.
Attorney General Sunday said the most significant members of the alleged organization are now accounted for and that preliminary hearings will be the next step in the legal process.
