AWS brings openAI’s GPT-5.6 models to India, prices cut up to 80%
AWS has brought OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Terra and Luna models to India through Amazon Bedrock, with Luna costing up to 80% less and Terra up to 20% less.
The availability allows organisations in sectors including financial services, healthcare and the public sector to access the models locally, while using existing AWS security, governance and operational controls.
OpenAI models get lower pricing on Amazon Bedrock
GPT-5.6 Terra is a general-purpose model aimed at everyday enterprise workloads, while GPT-5.6 Luna is designed for high-volume, latency-sensitive applications such as summarisation and classification.
Following OpenAI’s latest price reductions, GPT-5.6 Luna is now priced up to 80% lower, while GPT-5.6 Terra is up to 20% cheaper. AWS said the revised pricing is reflected on Amazon Bedrock.
Nitin Bawankule, Head of Enterprise Sales, India, OpenAI, said businesses in India are increasingly moving from experimenting with AI to using it in day-to-day operations.
“For many organisations in India, especially in regulated sectors, local inferencing is a key part of adopting AI with confidence,” Bawankule said.
Models can be accessed through a single API
Amazon Bedrock allows customers to access OpenAI models alongside other foundation models available on AWS through a single API, without making infrastructure changes, AWS said.
The setup allows organisations to select models based on the requirements of individual workloads, with Terra targeted at general enterprise tasks and Luna suited to higher-volume applications.
AI use cases span software, data and automation
AWS said the models can be used for software development, data analysis, agent workflows and production inference.
Potential applications include code generation, review and testing, automated report generation and multi-step business processes. In banking, financial services and healthcare, organisations can use the models for workflows such as KYC verification, regulatory filings and document processing.
Luna is also aimed at high-volume customer applications, including chatbots, voice assistants and support systems, where the cost of each interaction becomes significant at scale.
In-country inferencing targets regulated workloads
Satinder Pal Singh, Director, Solution Architecture, AWS India and South Asia, said Indian enterprises are increasingly moving towards production-scale AI deployments and need models that can run where their data already resides.
The in-country availability is expected to be particularly relevant for organisations with data governance and compliance requirements, as inference for the OpenAI models on Amazon Bedrock is processed on AWS infrastructure in India.
AWS said customers can apply the security, governance and operational practices they already use on its platform when deploying the models.
