BMW i5 LWB Bookings Open In India: Launch, Features And Details

BMW has opened bookings for the i5 Long Wheelbase in India, its first locally produced electric sedan and only the second electric BMW to roll out of the Chennai plant. For buyers in the executive luxury segment, this matters because it’s the only long-wheelbase, all-electric sedan in its class in India, which combines rear-seat space typically reserved for chauffeur-driven cars with a claimed range approaching 670 km. Bookings are open now through BMW’s dealer network and website ahead of a First Edition limited to just 99 units. Here’s what’s confirmed.

BMW i5 LWB: Size, Range And Performance

The BMW LWB model measures 5,175mm in length, 2,156mm in width and 1,520mm in height with a 3,105mm wheelbase that BMW says makes it the largest and longest sedan in its segment, prioritising rear-seat space specifically.

A single electric motor produces 268 hp. This is enough to take the car from 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds paired with an 81.6kWh battery pack rated for up to 669 km of range on the MIDC testing cycle.

The sedan gets adaptive rear-axle air suspension and raised ground clearance. These are the changes that BMW says are aimed specifically at handling Indian road conditions instead of being a direct carryover from international-spec versions.

BMW i5 LWB: The Limited First Edition

BMW India is launching an exclusive First Edition model alongside the standard car, restricted to 99 units. This latest update marks what the company calls a milestone in its India electrification push. The edition adds a rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and dedicated holder along with BMW Individual Silver Bronze interior accents, open-pore Fineline wood trim as well as a laser-engraved “FIRST EDITION” marking on the dashboard.

It’s offered in a fixed specification only and combines Carbon Black Metallic exterior paint with Titanium Bronze accents, meaning buyers wanting this edition don’t get a choice of colour or trim combination.

Since BMW hasn’t disclosed pricing for either the standard i5 LWB or the First Edition in this announcement, buyers should treat today’s bookings as a way to secure priority delivery rather than a confirmed purchase commitment with final pricing expected to follow once the car’s local launch is complete.
