Three Delhi Police personnel were injured after they were allegedly attacked by a group of people during patrolling in the Janta Vihar area of Mukundpur on Saturday, police said.

The incident took place around 3 pm on August 22, when Head Constables Dinesh and Rajesh were carrying out checking in the area. They found a motorcycle being driven without valid documents and took it to the police station for necessary action under Section 66 of the Delhi Police Act.

Around 3.30 pm, when the policemen returned to their beat, a group of people, including the motorcycle owner and his family members, allegedly confronted them over the seizure. According to police, the group became violent and threw chilli powder into the eyes of the two head constables. They also allegedly attacked the policemen with bricks and sticks.

Head Constable Tinu, who reached the spot to help his colleagues, was also assaulted. All three policemen suffered injuries in the attack. HC Dinesh sustained a head injury. They were provided medical treatment and are currently stable, police said.

With the help of local residents, police apprehended a 17-year-old juvenile from the spot. The other accused fled and police teams are searching for them.

A case has been registered at Bhalswa Dairy police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said one of the main accused, identified as Sunil alias Pankaj, is a bad character of the area and has been involved in five previous criminal cases, including two cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Police said efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused and strict action will be taken against those who assault or obstruct police personnel while they are performing their duties.
