Indian equity benchmarks ended higher on Monday after the closing auction session, with the Sensex rising 43 points to 78,542 and the Nifty gaining 13 points to 24,584. The Nifty ended below the 24,600 mark, while the Nifty Bank slipped 60 points to 57,687. The Midcap index outperformed, rising 392 points to 63,856.

The indices saw a notable adjustment during the closing auction session. The Nifty adjusted by 24 points, the Sensex by 63 points and the Nifty Bank by 81 points after the session.

The benchmark indices gained during the closing auction session, with the Nifty rising to 24,584 from 24,560 at 3:15 pm. The Nifty Bank climbed to 57,687 from 57,606, while the Sensex advanced to 78,542 from 78,479.

The Indian rupee ended at the day’s low of 95.29 per dollar on Monday, compared with the previous close of 95.21.

Wockhardt reported a net profit of ₹106 crore in the first quarter, compared with a loss of ₹90 crore in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 26% year-on-year to ₹929 crore from ₹738 crore, while EBITDA increased to ₹192 crore from ₹72 crore. EBITDA margin improved to 20.67% from 9.76%.

CLSA has downgraded The Ramco Cements to ‘underperform’ and set a target price of ₹755 per share. The downgrade comes after the company reported a 62.8% year-on-year decline in standalone net profit to ₹32 crore for Q1 FY27, although the figure was above the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of ₹25 crore.

Carysil reported a 37.7% year-on-year rise in net profit to ₹31.4 crore in the first quarter, compared with ₹22.8 crore in the year-ago period. Revenue increased 15.5% to ₹262.1 crore from ₹227 crore, while EBITDA rose 22.2% to ₹53.49 crore. EBITDA margin improved to 20.41% from 19.29%.

• Including LIC, the numbers have remained quite strong, and that’s a fundamental point because the amount of money which has been left in the hands of consumers by way of tax savings was supposed to go into investment products along with discretionary and non-discretionary spending.
• So, within investment products, we are seeing continued inflow of money into the mutual fund, of course, but more importantly, in the insurance segment too, we are seeing a higher amount of new business premium continuing for many of the insurance companies.
• I believe that most of these companies have probably on an embedded value to EBIDTA have remained in a very muted levels for last two three years.
• Given the kind of valuation advantage that you get because of the downside is limited and the new business premium is improving, we believe that some of the larger companies will definitely have better times going forward.
• Maybe one would not expect very dramatic upside, but around 15-20% kind of upside over a 12 to 15-month period is distinctly possible in some of the insurance businesses.
