\n\nChina has tightened its grip on information emerging from the border region with Nepal more than a week after devastating flash floods killed hundreds and left thousands missing, with little information publicly available about the victims on the Chinese side.
\n\nThe disaster has killed more than 1,000 people across China and Nepal and left more than 4,500 missing, according to available reports. The scale of the tragedy has once again drawn attention to China’s strict control over information surrounding major natural disasters and the limits placed on independent reporting from affected areas.
\n\nWhile authorities in Nepal have provided regular updates on casualties and missing people, information from the Chinese side, particularly Tibet, has remained comparatively scarce. Official updates have been released only intermittently, making it difficult to establish the full extent of the damage or determine how many people remain unaccounted for.
