A 19-year-old college student allegedly died by suicide after jumping from an upper floor of a mall near the Rajouri Garden Pink Line Metro station on Saturday, police said. The woman was a third-year BA student at Aryabhatta College in Delhi, according to police.

During the preliminary investigation, her family told police that she had been suffering from depression after the death of her mother in 2021. A head constable on routine patrol noticed the woman’s body lying near the Mall of Rajouri and informed the Rajouri Garden police station.

A police team reached the spot and examined the area along with the crime team and personnel from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). Police said a handwritten suicide note was recovered from the spot. In the note, the woman stated that she was ending her life of her own volition.

An officer said no evidence suggesting foul play was found during the initial inspection of the scene.

Proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been initiated, and further legal proceedings are underway, police said.
