\n\nIndia's dip in medals at the 2026 Asian Games did not go unnoticed and led the Minister of Sports and Youth to hold a review meeting in which they met with heads of several National Sports Federations (NSFs), as well as the Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P T Usha, Sports Secretary Hari Ranjan Rao, and Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) CEO N S Johal.
\n\nIn a statement issued by the MYAS, the Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya raised concern over the country being too reliant on one athlete for medals and called for a pipeline of athletes to be established. He called upon all NSFs to take responsibility. Meanwhile, plans were also laid for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which India will host in Ahmedabad.
\n\n“How long will Mirabai Chanu alone keep winning medals for us? We need to produce 10 more Mirabai Chanus. Every federation must take this responsibility seriously. We have to identify talent, provide the right training and create an environment in which athletes can progress to the highest level,” said Mandavia.
