IBM plans to install what it calls India's largest quantum computer in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, early next year. The machine will be set up at a new tech park. It will help researchers and companies find ways to use quantum computing in real life.
\n\nIBM India Managing Director Sandip Patel told ET that the facility is almost ready. The machines are expected to arrive early next year.
\n\nThe project is part of the Andhra Pradesh Quantum Valley initiative. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is backing the project. IBM is working with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on the initiative.
\n\nHow is a quantum computer different from a supercomputer?
\n\nA supercomputer is a very powerful computer that can process large amounts of data and perform complex calculations. It is used for weather forecasts, space research and climate studies. It uses regular computing technology and works with bits that store information as 0 or 1.
\n\nA quantum computer works differently. It uses quantum bits, called qubits, to solve certain complex problems in a different way. Scientists are studying how it can help develop new medicines, discover materials and solve difficult scientific problems.
\n\nA quantum computer can solve some complex problems that are difficult…
