According to a Cricbuzz source, the development originated from a WhatsApp message that the BCCI logistical team forwarded on Saturday. However, neither the chief executives nor the franchise owners have received a formal email confirming the date and location. "The IPL 2026 Player Auction will take place on December 16, 2026, at ITC Grand Goa and the auction briefing will be held on December 15, 2026," the BCCI WhatsApp notes.

Several IPL franchises have reportedly acknowledged getting the message from the BCCI. According to the report, the message was sent to help teams in scheduling travel to Goa and making logistical arrangements.
