\n\nUS Vice-President JD Vance has declined to say when the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran will end, as the fighting continues to affect global energy markets and face growing criticism in the United States. Speaking at a White House briefing on Thursday, Vance also questioned whether the conflict should still be described as a war.
\n\n"I wouldn't call it a war. Right now, there is no active shooting," he said, before acknowledging that "there have been places where this has flared up".
\n\nVance said major US combat operations had lasted "about six weeks" and argued that the military campaign had significantly damaged Iran's defence production capabilities.
\n\nBut when asked when the conflict would end, he said there was no clear answer.
\n\n"When you ask, ‘When will this end?', you're asking me a question like: When will the Iranians stop shooting at ships?" Vance said. "I think the reality is, I don't know the answer to that question. You'd have to ask the Iranians."
