Man Charged With Mailing White Powder Letters to Officials Ahead of Midterms

Federal authorities have charged an Oklahoma man with mailing hundreds of letters containing white powder to public officials in the run-up to the 2024 and 2026 elections. The powder was not dangerous. The man, Robin Martin, now faces charges of conveying a hoax and mailing threatening communications.

Martin was due to make his first court appearance on Tuesday afternoon in Oklahoma City. Online court records reportedly do not show a lawyer who could speak for him.

The Associated Press obtained a message from the Senate Sergeant at Arms at that time. It said law enforcement was working to catch any more letters before they were delivered, but it warned that some might still make it through.

At the time, the FBI and the Postal Inspection Service were both investigating. On Tuesday, the FBI sent questions about the case to the US attorney’s office. The Postal Inspection Service did not immediately answer an email from the AP asking for comment.
