Speaking at her first public appearance since the election, the Democratic governor-elect said her administration would represent people across the political spectrum.

“I am not going to be the governor for just Democrats. I am going to be the governor for all the people of Texas,” Hinojosa said. She added that the transition and incoming government would be bipartisan.

Bailes served in the Texas House from 2017 to 2025 and was among the Republican lawmakers who joined Democrats in opposing Abbott's proposed school voucher programme in 2023. The proposal would have allowed public funds to help families pay for private education.
