\n\nTwenty civil society groups in the UK have written to London Mayor Sadiq Khan, urging the Greater London Authority to boycott events organised by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s visit to Britain. Bhagwat is expected to address members of the Indian diaspora in the UK this weekend as part of an international outreach programme marking 100 years of the organisation.
\n\nThe groups have asked Khan not to provide a venue for the RSS-organised event and have urged British authorities to take steps to protect communities during Bhagwat’s visit.
\n\nThe development comes days after several Hindu organisations in the United States opposed an RSS event featuring Bhagwat in New York City. The event, titled Universal Oneness Celebrations, was held at Madison Square Garden.
\n\nThey argued that officials should take steps to protect Britain’s multicultural society and expressed concerns about the potential impact of Bhagwat’s visit on relations between different communities.
