The regulator has directed telecom companies to offer voice-and-SMS-only Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) for every validity period for which they offer a bundled plan with voice, SMS and data.These voice-and-SMS-only plans will have to be priced with a largely proportional reduction in tariff compared with the corresponding voice, SMS and data voucher. In simple terms, if a telecom operator offers a bundled recharge for a particular validity period, it will also have to offer a corresponding option without mobile data.Why TRAI has introduced the changeThe move is aimed at giving more choice to subscribers who do not need mobile internet services.
