India legend Anil Kumble reflected on his Test debut 36 years ago. Kumble made his ODI debut on April 25, 1990, against Sri Lanka, and his Test debut came against England in Manchester on August 9, 1990. Recalling his first Test wicket of Allan Lamb, Kumble said it was a special wicket, adding that he cherishes it deeply to this day. Kumble expressed gratitude to everyone who was part of his journey.

Kumble finished with figures of 3/105 in 43 overs in England’s first innings, but went wicketless in 17 overs bowled in the second innings.

Taking to X, he wrote, “It was 36 years ago today that I received my first Test Cap as player number 192 for India. Taking the wicket of Allan Lamb was the start of a truly special journey, one that I cherish deeply to this day. I am incredibly grateful for this journey and everyone who has been a part of it.”

Kumble also holds the record for picking up all 10 wickets in a Test innings, a feat he achieved against Pakistan in the Delhi Test in 1999.

Kumble went on to coach Team India and, with Virat Kohli, led the team to some fantastic wins. However, his coaching stint didn’t last long and ended after he stepped down after just a year in 2017. Under him, India won a Test series against the West Indies, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia. He was also inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2015.
