Widely regarded as one of the greatest and most versatile actors in the history of Indian cinema, ‘Lalettan’ Mohanlal has amassed a staunchly loyal fanbase over his decades on the big screen. Off it however, he happens to be a deeply private individual, spending whatever time he gets to himself, surrounded by his family, across his repertoire of lush green properties across India. In this regard, the veteran actor’s primary residence happens to be in Kochi, Kerala – specifically, in Thevara, a prominent waterfront residential and commercial neighbourhood, nestled away in the Ernakulam district. Now the expansive stretches of nature that come to mind when you think of Kerala is exactly the source of inspiration for how Mohanlal has had his private sanctuary done up – a nature-enclosed, luxury haven indeed.

Inside Mohanlal’s Kochi Home

Trees. That’s the crowning detail in this lush property, tucked away against the Kerala backwaters. The first thing one sees is the sprawling lawn wrapping around the house, a mini forest in itself, with trees populating its expanses. Red flowers are pictured in full bloom among the Arali trees as your inevitably gets drawn to the a wooded pandal placed mounted on intricate pillars.

The most complimentary aesthetic detail to a property so lush in its greenery is wood – and there’s plenty of that too in his residence. Past the verandah, stands a giant wooden door as the primary entryway to his home. The framing on the paintings – incidentally something Mohanlal is rather fond of collecting – fall right in line with this aesthetic preference as do the accents of the wooden kitchen. Other adornments include an expansive collection of antiques.

The third defining element in the home happens to be water. A aquarium adorns the living space from which is visible the actor’s own outdoor swimming pool, filling up the space between two Jamun trees. Besides this, the house is believed to have a sound-proof private room, a mirror-door guarded living room overlooking the backwaters and an open bath space lined with white pebbles. The home theatre and a fully functional home gym with wooden floors are enough to keep one entertained in Mohanlal’s own lap of nature.

Mohanlal has an Impressive List of Properties

Mohanlal’s Kochi residence may be his primary residence but the property that is on most people’s wish list is his luxurious Ooty cottage, called ‘Hideaway’. And the reason behind this being on everyone’s radar is that you can literally live in it! The three-bedroom colonial style villa in Lovedale can actually be rented, the cost coming in anywhere between ₹28,000 to ₹37,000 per night.

Besides Hideaway, Mohanlal also has an international profile of properties. Back in 2020, he bought a new apartment in Downtown Dubai. Featuring swimming pools, a gym, play centres and courtyards, the 4000 square feet space is reportedly located on the 45th floor and has its own private infinity pool. He is also believed to have invested in a one-bedroom apartment in Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. This one is located on the 29th floor and spreads over about 940 square feet, featuring a direct view of the iconic Dubai Fountain.

One thing’s for sure: Mohanlal sure does living out his down time, king size!
