It’s not too late to get your hot girl summer in. And you always start with a pack of rhinestones, a latex bodycon and feather boas!

She’s basically 30!
Well not really, but she’s definitely past the age which she had hilariously ragged sister Kendall Jenner about. Last evening, Kylie Jenner rang in her birthday with the most blissfully chaotic 2000s party glam vibe. The party was all pink, the favours were all bejeweled and the smiles were all dunked in a happy high. Themed birthday parties have been back for a while, but when King Kylie herself affirms kitschy pink, latex cuts and literal tiaras as the cool-girl thing to do, we listen.
Snatched and Sexy
Kylie opted for the most bubblegum pink hue she could find across all the collections she has access to in the world. A bodycon built in latex, her birthday eve fit had a halter neck a plunging neckline and a hem that cuts off shortly past the hips. Very, very ‘out there’ indeed. But that’s not all. It’s the equally tart pink feather boa she wrapped around her neck and as a crown. The same went for her crystal heels.
Her Barbie-coded sisters and friends followed suit, though they customised the theme to suit their personal style better.
Khloe Kardashian looked sublime in a ruffle-lined sheer bodycon while Kendall Jenner stuck to a basic baby pink crew neck tank with low-rise black pants and matching ballet flats. Rhode queen Hailey Bieber paired her mauve pink tank with a pair of nude leggings with a flared hem. Kim Kardashian on the other hand went Elle Woods-core in a baby pink track suit with a cropped hoodie and a matching bikini set peeking through. Everyone took on the boas and tiaras though – so that’s a non-negotiable.

Rhinestones Galore
We’re not talking aesthetic little diamonds with tinted hues across the colour board. We’re talking those big kitschy 3D stickers you put on your nails and fingers. Kylie took it a step further and bejeweled her drinking glass as well as her iced cake with these rhinestones. The brief was clear: inhale all the glitter you can!

How To: Ace Tacky Glam
The one of rule thumb you need to follow here is this – if it feels like ‘too much’, you’re on the right track, and adding a thing or two more will set your firmer on it. If you’re going tacky glam, forget everything you know about quiet luxury and the versatility of muted palettes. Nothing about how you dress should feel restrained and the only energy you must exude is a hyper-feminine one. Hot hues, slick latex finishes and silhouettes that wrap you in a bear hug – together, everything should spell out ‘UNAPOLOGETIC’, loud and bright. Accessorising tacky glam is where you really commit to the code. Think, a rhinestone-covered mini bag, feather-trimmed heels, oversized hoops, sparkly sunglasses, kitschy hair clips – coordinate your theme across the chaos and you’re good to go. Another thing to keep in mind is that tacky glam usually comes through best when you commit to one overarching colour; it simply highlights that essence of excess you’re chasing. It’s a little ridiculous, a whole lot of fun and it’ll leave you feeling younger than you are – even if you’re ‘basically 30’!
