This Independence Day weekend brings a mix of new films and series across streaming platforms, offering everything from romance and political drama to coming-of-age stories. With several titles arriving on August 13 and 14, there is plenty to watch across Netflix, ZEE5 and Lionsgate Play.

Netflix has several notable releases, including Cocktail 2, My Brilliant Career and Don’t Say Good Luck. Cocktail 2 – Netflix

Cocktail 2 is a spiritual sequel to Homi Adajania’s 2012 film. It follows a long-term couple, chef Kunal (Shahid Kapoor) and architect Diya (Rashmika Mandanna), whose holiday in Sicily turns chaotic. A loyalty test designed by Diya backfires when her free-spirited friend Ally (Kriti Sanon) develops genuine feelings for Kunal. The film will start streaming on Netflix from August 14.

Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata – ZEE5

Following its theatrical release, this Manoj Tapadia-directed medical drama is now scheduled to stream on ZEE5 on August 14. It centres on the true heroism of the staff at Cama & Albless Hospital during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The thriller highlights the ordinary nurses, doctors, and workers who went to extraordinary lengths to protect hundreds of lives. Co-produced by and starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Girija Oak and Smita Tambe.

Aakhri Sawal – Lionsgate Play

Following a theatrical run, the political drama Aakhri Sawal has debuted on Lionsgate Play on August 13. The political thriller explores the intense ideological fallout when a young academic, Vicky Hegde (Namashi Chakraborty), challenges the historical and philosophical views of his ex-mentor, Professor Gopal Nadkarni (Sanjay Dutt). Their private intellectual debate quickly snowballs into a massive national controversy. The film, directed by Abhijeet Mohan Warang, stars Dutt and Namashi Chakraborty alongside a supporting cast including Amit Sadh, Sameera Reddy, Nitu Chandra, and Tridha Choudhury.

Don’t Say Good Luck – Netflix

The Netflix film “Don’t Say Good Luck” follows high schooler Sophie Birenbaum (Sunny Sandler) as she balances a starring role in a musical with her family life, which is upended by her mother returning cancer. The drama, featuring Max Greenfield and Jack Champion, focuses on Sophie navigating her theatrical ambitions alongside personal responsibilities. It is all set to stream on Netflix from August 14.

My Brilliant Career – Netflix

Based on Miles Franklin’s famous 1901 novel, this Australian drama series marks the book’s first-ever television adaptation following the iconic 1979 film. The story follows Sybylla Melvyn (Philippa Northeast), a passionate young woman trapped in rural Australia who dreams of becoming an author instead of following traditional societal expectations. Her ambitions face a major test when she falls for a wealthy neighbour, Harry Beecham (Christopher Chung). The series premiered on August 13 on Netflix.
