White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her role at the end of August and transition to a position as one of President Donald Trump’s top outside advisers, Trump announced Wednesday on Truth Social. Trump said Leavitt is stepping down so she can spend more time with her young children and family. She gave birth to her second child, a baby girl, in May, and recently returned to the White House.

“Our wonderful White House Press Secretary, and one of my most trusted aides, Karoline Leavitt, will be departing her role at the end of the month so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family,” Trump wrote. Trump praised Leavitt’s work, calling her one of the best White House press secretaries in the history of the office. He also said she would remain an influential voice within the Republican Party as his administration works toward the 2026 midterm elections.

Leavitt has served as White House press secretary since the beginning of Trump’s second term. It is not yet clear who will succeed her or who will serve in the role on an interim basis.

Leavitt thanked Trump for giving her the opportunity to serve in the high-profile position. She said that after returning to the White House following the birth of her daughter, she realized she could not be the mother her two young children deserve while giving the job the constant time, energy and attention it requires.

Leavitt described her decision to leave as “bittersweet” and said she was embarking on a new chapter in her life.

Trump has asked her to continue serving as a top adviser from outside the White House. Leavitt also said she would remain a vocal advocate for MAGA and the Republican Party.
