Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Indians think about “Akhand Bharat” while making a provocative pitch that Hindus in their country would like to stay there rather than in India. “The Indians believe in Akhand Bharat. But we are Muslims. They are not. But we are Muslims of the mindset that tolerates. We have 4 percent Hindu population in Pakistan. They are as free as anywhere else. They would rather be with us than in India,” said Pakistan President.

While Zardari may have made this bold claim, it is to be mentioned that at the time of partition, the percentage of non-Muslim minority including Hindus and Sikhs accounted for between 15-20 percent. However, over the decades and subjected to persecution and atrocities, only 3-4 percent of the Hindu majority is left in Pakistan today, exposing their President’s bold claims that they (Hindus) would like to stay back.

Over the years, repeated instances of atrocities against Hindus and Sikhs have surfaced. Minorities have also been tortured and forcefully converted. Those refused either attempted to escape or were tortured more brutally.
