Mehidy Hasan Miraz put on an astonishing performance on Day 4 of Bangladesh’s first Test match against Australia. Mehidy took three wickets to help Bangladesh reduce Australia to 243/7 in their second innings at lunchtime on the fourth day of play at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin. He later picked up two more wickets and helped the visitors bowl out the Aussies on 284. The spin-bowling all-rounder removed Alex Carey on Sunday, August 16, before taking out Beau Webster and Pat Cummins. He began his wicket account in the second innings by removing Steve Smith off his own bowling in the twilight session of Day 3.

Mehidy bowled Webster clean, Shadman Islam finished the catch of Australian skipper Cummins at short leg, and Litton Das caught Carey behind. Mehidy now has more than 100 wickets in the World Test Championship (WTC). He completed his 100 wickets after Cummins was dismissed on the sixth delivery of the 74th over of Australia’s second innings.

After Taijul Islam, he was the second bowler from Bangladesh to take 100 or more wickets in the WTC. Additionally, Mehidy became the first player from Bangladesh to reach the WTC double of 100 wickets and 1,000 runs. Mehidy, who is now playing in his 32nd WTC match for Bangladesh, has amassed 1,436 runs and 100 wickets.

Only Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Pat Cummins, Chris Woakes, Ben Stokes, and Mitchell Starc had reached the WTC double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets prior to Mehidy.

As a No. 7 batter on Saturday, Mehidy, who bowled just four overs in Bangladesh’s opening innings in the current Test, also contributed a vital knock of 65 runs off 154 balls. Bangladesh scored a huge first-innings total of 426 and took a commanding lead of 228 runs thanks to his outstanding batting effort.
