Child star behind the most-watched YouTube video in history launches solo music career
Now 17, Park Geon-roung, the child dancer from the viral 2016 “Baby Shark Dance” video, has released his first digital single, “WAVE,” backed by the song’s copyright owner, The Pinkfong Company.

Now 17, Park has released his first digital single, “WAVE,” backed by the song’s copyright owner, The Pinkfong Company. The release comes a decade after the original video debuted on YouTube, where it has since accumulated over 17 billion views to become the most-watched video on the platform. The original nursery rhyme sparked global dance trends, celebrity parodies, and even played at the White House lawn.
Unlike the 2016 video, where Park only appeared as an on-screen performer alongside animated characters, “WAVE” features him as both a vocalist and co-lyricist. The track opens with a brief nod to the recognisable “Baby Shark” melody before transitioning into an electropop sound. The single also includes a verse from Joohoney, the main rapper and producer of the K-pop group Monsta X.
The release marks a strategic shift for The Pinkfong Company, which is attempting to build a long-term music career around a live-action performer from its catalogue rather than relying solely on animated characters. Pinkfong plans to follow the single with a documentary titled WAVE: A Boy’s Record, documenting Park’s transition from a child star to an active musician.
