Joe Root Creates History, Equals Massive World Record Held By Sachin Tendulkar

Joe Root scored 66 in the first Test vs England, equaling the world record for the most Test fifties, previously held by Sachin Tendulkar, both now having 68 fifties.

England are currently taking on Pakistan in the first Test of the two-match series at the Headingley Cricket Ground. The player who everyone looked forward to in this match was Joe Root, who was entering his first series as the new England captain. In his very first knock with the bat in this series, Root managed to score some big runs with the bat. He, in fact, equalled a huge world record that was held by the legendary Sachin Tendukar.
Joe Root smashed 66 from 112 balls in an innings studded with 10 fours. This was the 68th Test fifty for the England captain. He now has equalled the record of most fifties scored in Test Cricket history, having gone level with Sachin Tendulkar who also has 68 half-centuries in the longest format of the game.

Joe Root has also become the captain with the fifth most 50+ scores in Test Cricket, now having 42 such scores to his name as the England skipper. South Africa’s Graeme Smith holds the record with 61 fifty-plus scores as captain. He is followed by Ricky Ponting (54), Allan Border (51), and Misbah Ul Haq (43).
England On Top
England strengthened their grip on the first Test against Pakistan at Headingley after taking a commanding first-innings lead on Day 2. Pakistan were bowled out for 171 in their first innings, with Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue claiming five wickets each.
England also suffered a couple of early setbacks, but Joe Root and Jordan Cox steadied the innings with an important partnership. Cox top-scored with 73, while Root contributed 66 before both batters were dismissed.
Harry Brook and Dan Lawrence then continued England’s progress, ensuring the hosts moved comfortably past Pakistan’s total.
