Nancy Guthrie Mystery Continues As Pima County Sheriff Gives Major Update On Human Remains Found Near Tucson
Human remains have been found in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard in Arizona, approximately 15 miles from the home of missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities said there is no indication “at this time” that the remains are connected to the investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance. The remains appear to have been at the location for an extended period.
Pima County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue deputies are responding to the scene.
Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Tucson-area home on Feb. 1. She was last seen on Jan. 31 before she was apparently kidnapped from her home in Arizona’s Catalina Foothills, without her phone or critical medications.
Nancy Guthrie Missing For More Than Six Months
More than six months after Guthrie disappeared, no suspects have been arrested. Investigators also have no leading theory about a motive, according to a source.
The case has been marked by unanswered questions, including how many people may have been involved in her abduction and whether she was taken by someone who knew her.
Authorities previously released two ransom notes connected to the case.
The first note, sent on February 2, claimed Guthrie was safe but scared and demanded $4 million in cryptocurrency. It said she would be released unharmed within 12 hours if the ransom was paid and threatened to kill her if the demand was not met.
A second note sent February 6 claimed Guthrie had died shortly after she was taken and said she was “buried in nature.”
The sheriff’s department said the notes contain a distinctive pattern of word choices that could provide insight into the writer’s mindset. Authorities believe someone who knows the writer may recognize those patterns.
The department has not indicated that the human remains found near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard are connected to Guthrie’s case.
