A multi-storey building collapsed near Satya Niketan in South-West Delhi on Sunday, leaving several students feared trapped under the rubble. Rescue operations are underway, with multiple agencies working to pull those trapped from the debris. An eyewitness said the collapse happened suddenly, describing the sound as being similar to “the rumble of an earthquake”. He said thick smoke and dust filled the area immediately after the building collapsed.
\n\n“We rushed out immediately. There was a lot of smoke and dust here. The entire building had collapsed,” an eyewitness told ANI news agency.
\n\nHe claimed that rescue teams had already pulled out several people, including four children who were found alive. According to the eyewitness, cries could still be heard from beneath the rubble, with children shouting, “Save us, save us!”
\n\n"They were constructing a basement. They had reinforced the upper structure, but the pillars at the bottom were weak. They were renovating the building, specifically to create a rental space on the ground floor, and that caused the collapse. Laborers were working down below and got buried," he added.
