A major building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on Sunday left at least one person dead, while several others are feared trapped under the rubble. The collapsed structure, reportedly a five-storey paying guest accommodation for students, came down in the afternoon, triggering a massive rescue operation. Several people have been pulled out so far, with some of the injured shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. Rescue teams are continuing to search through the debris for those still trapped.Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reached the spot and took stock of the rescue operation. She said teams from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence were working on a “war footing” to rescue those trapped. The adjacent building has also been vacated as a precautionary measure.
