To the teachers that taught us that we are far more than our marks (Credit: AI)
\n\nThere are very few things I can recall about school with great clarity. The few things I can though, is my spot in the front row, reams and reams of ant-sized note scribbles and an almost comical number of report cards. I remember being very good at school in the most obvious way you can take it. I'll even go so far as to say that I was a textbook child for the Indian education system; I embraced the rat race without ever questioning it. And the pressure of it all never came from home – my parents have always been remarkably chill. Still, there was something predictably reassuring about a marksheet quantifying who I am. Those that have typically found themselves on the far-right end of percentages will agree. But the thing that probably still stings the most, almost a decade after having left school, is what an impersonal experience it was for me. And that's exactly the label I'd put on the entirety of those 14 years, had it not been for three women in particular.
\n\nThe first was my art guru.
