Delhi is seemingly in for a wet week! Reportedly, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cloudy skies and light rain for the remainder of the week in Delhi, including today, Wednesday, August 12. The predictions suggest that residents can expect intermittent spells of rain, continuing through August 16.

The IMD has also indicated that the weather will remain largely unsettled, with light to moderate rainfall anticipated across various parts of the national capital. For today, the maximum temperature has been predicted to reach 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature, 25 degrees Celsius. With no warning issued for the day, Delhi may see a ‘generally cloudy sky with Light Rain or Drizzle’. The city is also expected to witness 90 to 85 per cent of humidity.

On August 10, several regions reported significant rainfall, with Mayur Vihar recording 37 millimetres (mm) and Mungeshpur 21 mm. The Safdarjung Observatory, which serves as the city’s primary weather station, has already surpassed the average monthly rainfall for August, accumulating 230.1 mm within the first eight days.

According to the IMD, Delhi weather is expected to be influenced by an active monsoon trough, which has led to the current wet conditions.

The persistent rain has already caused disruptions in daily activities, with traffic congestion reported in various parts of the city. Commuters have faced challenges, particularly in areas such as Kashmere Gate and Mathura Road, due to the combination of rain and ongoing events in the region. The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious during this period, as the weather can lead to sudden changes in conditions.

In addition to the rainfall, the temperatures are expected to remain below normal, with maximum temperatures predicted to hover around 33 degrees Celsius most days. This cooler weather, a result of the rainfall, provides some relief from the usual August heat.
