Kerala Higher Education Minister Roji M John on Wednesday (August 12) said that the syndicate of the Kerala Technological University (KTU) has resolved to temporarily roll back the yearback system implemented in the fifth semester of the BTech course at the university, as reported by PTI.

The decision was reached at the first meeting of the new KTU syndicate, the minister said in a Facebook post.

The interim withdrawal of the yearback system has prompted the removal of the strict condition that admission to the fifth semester would be offered only after securing a certain number of credits in the first two semesters, he said.

According to the minister, the decision was finalised considering the concerns voiced by thousands of students from the 2024 batch.

He stated that numerous student organisations had contacted the government to articulate that the yearback system was negatively affecting the students’ further studies.

Keeping the students’ concerns in mind, the new syndicate was asked to intervene and take corrective action in this regard.

The syndicate reversed the decision adopted in 2024 by the Board of Governors, during the previous government, to roll out the yearback system.
