Delhi CNG blast
New Delhi: Families of workers killed and injured in the CNG station blast in Delhi’s Mundka area have described scenes of panic and confusion after the explosion, alleging that some victims remained without immediate medical help as relatives rushed them to hospitals.
The blast occurred on Wednesday afternoon while CNG was being refilled into a truck at the station. Three workers were killed and several others injured in the incident, police said. The exact cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
Among those killed was 25-year-old Manish, who had been working at the CNG station for around three years. His uncle, Vijay Prasad, said the family found him lying at the fuel pump, bleeding heavily.
“He lay there for half an hour. He had lost so much blood. How could anyone survive?” Prasad told PTI.
According to the family, Manish had reported for duty around 2 pm before the blast took place later in the afternoon. Prasad said they received a phone call informing them that a cylinder had exploded and Manish was seriously injured.
“I got a call saying that a cylinder had exploded and Manish was serious. I called my brother, and he, my nephew and several other people came here,” he said.
The family alleged that there was no immediate transport available for the injured worker.
“There was no one to take him. All gas station staff ran away,” Prasad alleged.
Manish was eventually taken to Safdarjung Hospital, but his uncle said he had already lost a significant amount of blood.
The other two workers killed in the blast were identified as Brahmjeet, 34, and Sunny, 30. Both were residents of Nizampur and worked at the CNG station.
Aditya, a relative of Brahmjeet and another injured worker, Akshay, said both men had been employed at the station for around two years. Brahmjeet died at the spot, while Akshay remains in critical condition with severe back injuries and internal trauma.
“Akshay has severe injuries on his back and internal and blunt trauma. He is in critical condition. Brahmjeet passed away on the spot,” Aditya said.
Both Brahmjeet and Akshay were married and had two children each, according to their family.
The relatives said they rushed to the site after hearing about the explosion and alleged that they had to move some of the injured themselves.
“When we arrived, there was no police or ambulance. We had to carry them to Jeevan Jyoti Hospital in Bahadurgarh ourselves,” Aditya alleged.
Police, however, said senior officers reached the spot soon after the blast. Officials said the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Outer District, the Assistant Commissioner of Police and the Mundka police station SHO were among those who arrived at the scene.
The Delhi Fire Service said it received information about the blast at 3.37 pm and immediately sent six fire tenders to the CNG station.
Police said six people who were standing near the truck when the explosion occurred were taken to hospitals. Three injured men, Surjeet, Sanjay and Vipin, were admitted to CD Global Hospital in Mundka for treatment.
Investigators are now trying to determine what triggered the explosion at the CNG station. Police said the exact cause is not yet known and further investigation is underway.
