Woman found dead at Delhi home
New Delhi: A 70-year-old woman was found dead inside her home in southeast Delhi’s Pant Nagar area on Saturday morning, with police suspecting that she may have been killed during a robbery. The woman lived alone in the house after her two daughters got married. The incident came to light when one of her daughters reached the house at around 8.15 am to meet her.
The daughter reportedly found the main door open and entered the house, where she found her mother lying in the bedroom in a blood-soaked condition.
Family members said gold and diamond jewellery and other belongings were missing from the house. They suspect that the woman was killed by burglars during the robbery.
According to the family, the woman’s hands were tied and she had injuries on her face and neck. Her son-in-law alleged that she appeared to have been strangled and may have also been hit with a heavy object.
Police are also looking into reports that the accused locked the doors of several neighbouring houses from the outside before entering the woman’s home. The neighbours’ doors were allegedly bolted to prevent anyone from coming out or raising an alarm.
The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Nizamuddin Police Station and has caused concern among residents of the locality. The family said the woman had been living in the area since 1985.
After receiving information about the incident, police teams reached the spot and launched an investigation. A forensic team was also called to collect evidence from the house.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area and questioning local residents to identify and trace the accused.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, including the suspected robbery and how the accused entered and left the house. The exact cause of death will be established after a post-mortem examination.
The woman’s family has also called for stronger security measures for senior citizens who live alone.
