MCD Sanitation Worker Stabbed To Death In Delhi

A 27-year-old MCD sanitation worker was allegedly stabbed to death while on duty in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri, prompting his colleagues to protest and threaten a citywide shutdown of auto-tippers from Monday.

The victim, identified as Anil, was allegedly attacked with a knife while he was working in the area. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the accused and establish the motive behind the killing.

A purported CCTV video of the attack has surfaced on social media. The footage allegedly shows a man in a yellow T-shirt approaching Anil and attacking him with a sharp object after a brief argument. The man is then allegedly seen fleeing the spot.

The authenticity of the viral video has not been independently verified. Police are examining CCTV recordings collected from the area as part of their investigation.

Anil’s family alleged that they were initially told by police that he had met with an accident. They said they learned about the alleged stabbing after reaching the spot. The family also claimed that Anil had no known enmity with anyone.

Sanitation Workers Threaten Shutdown

Following Anil’s death, several sanitation workers staged a protest demanding the immediate arrest of the accused, compensation for his family and a government job for one of his relatives.

Members of the Delhi Sanitation Workers Union said they would visit auto-tipper depots across Delhi from Monday and stop operations if their demands were not met.

“If his family is not given a job or if they do not arrest the accused, we will shut down auto-tippers across Delhi from tomorrow,” union member Karan Singh Mahroliya said.

AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar also joined the protest and demanded justice for Anil, along with compensation and a government job for one family member. A senior police officer said the motive behind the killing was yet to be established and all possible angles were being examined. Police are also checking whether one or more people were involved in the attack.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi said it would ensure compensation for Anil’s family. Its representatives have also visited the family and conveyed the assurance. The sanitation workers have also raised concerns over the safety of workers while carrying out their duties.
